Bob Rule, who worked at Lumbermens Mutual Group from 1964 – 1995, died Feb. 25th. He suffered from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Funeral Services Set for Pat Kemper
Pat Kemper, wife of former Lumbermens Mutual Group executive James S. “Kim” Kemper III, died on Friday, February 18th after a battle with lung cancer. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 26 at St. Francis de Sales Church at Route 22 and Buesching Rd. in Lake Zurich.

2003 Benefit plan summary annual report available
The summary annual report for the 2003 Lumbermens Mutual Group welfare benefit plan is available for review. The report includes information about vendors with whom Lumbermens Mutual Group contracted to provide services as well as basic financial information about the plan. Instructions on obtaining a copy of the full annual report are also provided.

2004 Medical Plan amended - claims for services through CIGNA/Caremark due before the end of the year
Individuals who participated in the CIGNA/Caremark health plan offered by Lumbermens Mutual Group in 2004 will need to submit outstanding claims prior to December 31, 2005. Previous Plan language allowed claims to be submitted for up to 24 months from the date of service. However, since Lumbermens Mutual Group no longer offers a health plan through CIGNA/Caremark all claims incurred in 2004 must be submitted by December 31, 2005 to be considered for payment.

Remember to provide prescriptions to your new healthcare provider
All retirees and employees on leave of absence for greater than a year who are accessing healthcare benefits through Lumbermens Mutual Group next year must send their prescription drug information to their new plan as of January 1, 2005. Each health plan being offered next year includes a prescription drug card for retail and mail order prescriptions.

Special Notice for New York Retirees and LOAs
Benefit materials were mailed on Monday, November 1 to retirees and those on leave of absence greater than one year living in New York. Coverage will be offered to New York retirees and LOAs through Group Health Incorporated (GHI). After receiving their materials (or if the materials aren’t received by Friday, November 5), participants can call GHI directly with questions at 866/444-4995. When speaking with GHI, reference the person to whom the materials were sent rather than Lumbermens Mutual Group because the plans offered are individual and family plans, rather than a Lumbermens Mutual Group group plan.

PBGC taking over Lumbermens Mutual Group pension plan
The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) has notified Lumbermens Mutual Group that it will move to take control of the company's pension plan effective October 21, 2004. Benefit levels for the majority of plan participants will not be affected by this development and payments to retirees will continue uninterrupted. The PBGC issued a press release about the action.

2005 retiree benefit plan announced
Lumbermens Mutual Group will continue to provide access to health benefit plans for retirees and employees on leave of absence. Although the company can no longer provide a subsidy for these benefits, retirees over age 65 can access a Medicare supplemental plan while those aged 55 to 64 and employees on leave of absence have two options for coverage.

Mike Coutu steps down; selection process for new CEO underway
Acting President, CEO and CFO Mike Coutu has resigned and Lumbermens Mutual Group and Kenning mutually terminated the contract under which Kenning provided management services for Lumbermens Mutual Group's run-off planning and operations. A search for a new Lumbermens Mutual Group CEO is currently underway. In the meantime, the company's current management team will report to COO Doug Andrews.
