Why Kemper Collects and Discloses Personal Information

Kemper collects and discloses personal information only for the purpose of serving the insurance related needs of its customers (current and former policyholders and insureds). These needs include evaluating, providing policy related or administrative services, including compliance with regulatory requirements, claims investigation, adjustment and coverage assessment. Kemper may also collect and disclose personal information about third parties with respect to claims made against customers.

Types of Nonpublic Personal Information Kemper Collects

Information that may be collected includes, but is not limited to, an individual’s name, address, telephone number, social security number, motor vehicle reports, policy number, premium and payment history, medical history and credit reports. We may also collect information from claimants including his or her name, address, telephone number, social security number, claim number, date of loss, type of loss, cause of loss, and the value of a claim.

We may initiate the collection of certain nonpublic personal information when administering or servicing an insurance policy, or in the handling of a claim. The information may be collected from sources such as our affiliates, independent insurance agents or brokers, policyholders, claimants or other third party sources. Examples of these third party sources may be witnesses to incidents, or persons retained by us or by the claimant in the process of servicing a policy or handling (ie: physicians, attorneys, accountants or appraisers).

We may also collect nonpublic personal information when you use our corporate web sites. These cookies do not gather any other personal information from you or your computer.

Disclosure of Nonpublic Personal Information

Nonpublic personal information may be shared with affiliated and nonaffiliated third parties in order to administer or service an insurance policy or a claim, and as otherwise permitted or required by law. Our affiliates include insurance companies, third party administrators performing services on our behalf, investment companies, brokers/agents and other providers of financial products and services. Unaffiliated third parties include, but are not limited to, an independent insurance agent or broker, the policyholder, persons or organizations retained to assist in the claim process or in the administration of policies (ie: medical providers, appraisers), reinsurers, and others as permitted or required by law.

Usage of Nonpublic Personal Information

We use nonpublic personal information to administer or service a policy, administer a claim, bill charges, or as otherwise permitted by law. Nonaffiliated third parties having access to our nonpublic personal information are prohibited from using such information for any marketing purposes except as permitted by law. Nonaffiliated third parties may use such information only to perform their obligations to us, or one of our policyholders, claimants, or as otherwise permitted by law. Nonaffiliated third parties are prohibited from disclosing any nonpublic personal information to any other party.
