Kemper Insurance Reports Internet Scam
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LONG GROVE, ILL. – September 28, 2005 – Kemper today
announced that it has reported an apparent internet “phishing”
scam to the Federal Trade Commission, the FBI’s Internet Fraud
Complaint Center, and the non-profit Internet Fraud Information
Center.
The perpetrators have added the letter “s” to Kemper
in the Kemper Insurance Companies’ website to create what
purports to be their own website, kempersinsurance.com. At times,
this site has consisted of many of the pages of what is at the actual
kemperinsurance.com (no “s”) site. However, the contact
information (email and fax number) on the fraudulent site has been
changed, so that insureds and job applicants are asked to send their
personal policy and other information to the perpetrators, and job
and loan applicants maybe further required to provide financial
information.
Kemper does not know of any individuals or insureds who may have
fallen for the scam. If you are a victim, Kemper encourages you
to contact your local authorities and the three agencies to which
Kemper has reported the scam. The Kempers Insurance website improperly
uses Kemper’s name and property and is not affiliated with
nor authorized by the Kemper Insurance Companies
